Helebores - Seed Pods Starting Now
Here is what happens as Helebores mature in late spring. We usually cut off the bottom leaves that have been flattened on the ground and are the first leaves you see after the snow melts. As the blooms mature, new leaves emerge in the centre of the plant. The leaves are very tough and strong, and very dessicated compared to most other plants. Here is a bloom showing the formed seed pod. Hellebores self seed easily, and although slow growing, we now have lots of seedlings, and they have started to bloom and give some colour variation to our collection. I love Helebores, but I know, this is enough pics of them for now!!
Greg and Shelley live in Bracebridge, Ontario and love to garden. Well, actually Greg is the true aficionado of gardening, Shelley just helps occasionally. We actively garden about a quarter of our 4 acre property, and the rest is ravines and riverfront. Now that we are retired, more gardens might crop up!
Greg like to specialize in perennials, and also loves to collect plants. He is also into Orchids as a winter hobby.
This blog tells the story of our gardening pursuits, for the benefit of other people who find gardening one of the things in life that is satisfying, rewarding, and brings beauty into our lives.
I have many hobbies but one of my favourites is making and collecting dolls. I started making dolls about 20 years ago, but after a few years I became busy with other things, my family, my job, etc. After recently retiring I rekindled my interest in both making and collecting dolls. This blog will document my progress.
